Here’s why you should carry one of our free RFID Blocking Sleeves…
Your credit card information, personal information, or debit card number and details are among your most valuable possessions. You’d never give them out to a stranger because credit card theft and identity theft are holes that are way too easy to fall into and can be difficult to claw your way back out of.
But it’s now become even easier for fraudsters to steal your credit card information or commit identity theft. Now they can get it simply by standing next to you with a low-cost RFID scanner.
Well, while it might sound far-fetched, if you carry around a credit card with an RFID (Radio Frequency IDentification) chip embedded in it, you’re making yourself more vulnerable. But you don’t have to be if you invest in RFID blocking sleeves or RFID wallets.

How Do RFID chips work?
An RFID chip has an integrated radio transponder that transmits an identifying radio signal when triggered by an “interrogating” radio signal. The chips can operate without batteries because they use the power from the trigger signal; they’re kind of like the radio equivalent of a mirror, bouncing (modified) energy back to its source.
An early version of RFID was developed by the British during World War II to help distinguish between friendly and enemy aircraft. This technology has been improved over the years and has been used to prevent shoplifting, manage inventory, track packages during transport, and improve assembly line efficiency in manufacturing.
More recently, RFID card systems have been developed to allow you to pay for things simply by swiping or tapping your payment card over a reading machine rather than having to be inserted into terminal slots.
Known as ‘Contactless’ payments, they’re designed for convenience but can actually make you more vulnerable.
In addition to one or more of your credit cards being an RFID card, RFID chips are also used for driver’s licenses, identification cards, passports and travel cards issued from 2006 onwards to track your information.
RFID chips are used in more ways than you know. They’re everywhere.
How Can People Get Access To My Details Without Knowing?
It’s possible to intercept the RFID signals used to make contactless payments happen, a practice known as RFID skimming. It’s even possible for fraudsters and hackers to scan your card details from through your pocket, regular credit card sleeves, or wallet.
Hackers only need to be standing 6 inches away to be able to do this. They can pick up and store your data in seconds without you knowing and even use the info to create a copy of your card.
How Do RFID Blocking Sleeves Work?
Thankfully, while the radio waves are easily intercepted by fraudsters, you can also block them out from your end.
This is what RFID blocking sleeves do. The material they’re made from encases your credit cards in what’s called a Faraday cage, which prevents hackers from scanning rfid in wallets by interfering with the radio waves.
Proper, well-made RFID blocking card sleeves will counter any communication between your credit cards and any card machines with RFID scanners. RFID blocking also blocks all electromagnetic fields.
Investing in RFID blocking sleeves or RFID blocking wallets will make an excellent addition to your urban survival kit. It ranks alongside your credit card multi-tool, credit card knife, and even your seatbelt cutter.
Alpine Rivers sell excellent quality and extremely reasonably priced RFID shield sleeves and wallets and have rave reviews to boot. Other trustworthy brands include WPPL and Aerb.
You can even find similar products to protect you from identity theft by using RFID blocking sleeves for your passport instead of a regular passport wallet.
Knowing you’re prepared for all eventualities and protecting yourself from danger or potential malicious scans and hacks is one of the best feelings of security in the world.
